1) THEIR , THEY’RE , THERE
THEIR - meaning it owns something, belongs to someone. Eg. It is their house.
THERE : refers to a place, idea, action, abstract . Eg. There are many ways to do it
THEY’RE : short for ‘they are’ . Eg. They're going to be late
2) LOSE , LOOSE
Lose - opposite of win
Loose - Opposite of tight
3) YOUR, YOU’RE
YOUR : Like their, refers possession
YOU’RE : like They’re. short for ‘you are’ (informal usage). You’re going to do this. You’re adorable. Formal usage - you are
4) ITS, IT’s
ITS : indicates possession . Its thick shell protects it.
IT’S : short for ‘it is’ . It's not considered appropriate to wear pajamas tow ork.
5) EFFECT , AFFECT
EFFECT : (noun) result, change that occurred . Eg.The movie had a strong effect on me. What effects will reducing the budget have on sales?
AFFECT : (verb) influence, cause . The early rains will affect the crop
Eg. The Internet can affect the minds of youngsters. Internet has both good and bad effects.
6)WEATHER , WHETHER
WEATHER - summer, rain, sunshine etc Eg. The weather today is so good.
WHETHER - this or that. Eg. I dont know whether I should choose Biology or Physics as my subject
7) THEN, THAN
THEN - denotes time. Eg. We went to the hotel and THEN to the mall.
THAN - used for comparison. Eg. I like the fur coat better THAN the suede one. The weather today is colder than usual.
8) COMPLIMENT , COMPLEMENT
COMPLIMENT - praise/flattery. Eg. He complimented my new dress
COMPLEMENT - something that completes or is an add on to something. Eg. The book will be a good complement to his collection.
9) STATIONERY , STATIONARY
STATIONERY - pens, pencils, books etc
STATIONARY- fixed in one place
